The app is free, however, the big caveat is that you need to have an Office 365 subscription. A regular normal desktop license for MS Office won't work.
We've discussed the differences between Office 365 and Office 2013 licensing previously. With the Office Mobile for iPhone release, companies now have a more compelling reason to jump to the Office 365 subscription.
Hopefully, Microsoft will also deliver Office Mobile for the iPad and Android devices in the near future.
